St. Mark's Episcopal
Church is on a quiet residential street in South St. Louis. Clifton Avenue
is one of those special St. Louis streets that starts and stops several
times. It is not one continuous street from its starting point in
the North to its ending point in the South. Even those who know
South St. Louis well would have a hard time finding St. Mark's.
For the wise, Clifton is two blocks west of Hampton off of Nottingham.
We'll give everyone else driving directions from the three closest highways.
Driving Directions
from U.S. 40/I-64

Exit the
Highway at exit 34C Hampton Ave. If you have taken the correct
exit, you are driving South down a busy, commercial street, Hampton
Avenue. (If you have taken the wrong exit, you are in the middle
of Forest Park. Turn around.)

Drive South
on Hampton approximately 4 miles. When you pass the Target
store on your right at Chippewa, start looking for your next turn.
The second traffic light past Chippewa is Nottingham.

Turn right
on Nottingham. The second chance to make a right off of
Nottingham is Clifton. (The street sign is hard to find; it's
on the left).

Make a
right turn on Clifton. St. Mark's is in the middle of the
first block.

from I-44

Exit the
Highway at exit 286 Hampton Ave. Go South on Hampton.
If you pass a Shell station almost immediately after turning onto
Hampton, you are going the right way. If you find yourself on
a bridge over train tracks, you are going the wrong way. Turn
around at McDonalds.

Drive South
on Hampton approximately 3 miles. When you pass the
Target store on your right at Chippewa, start looking for your next
turn. The second traffic light past Chippewa is Nottingham.

Turn
right on Nottingham. The second chance to make a right off
of Nottingham is Clifton. (The street sign is hard to find;
it's on the left).

Make a
right turn on Clifton. In the middle of the first block
is St. Mark's.
Driving Directions
from I-55
North bound
(you are traveling towards downtown St. Louis)

Exit the
Highway at exit 202A Carondolet Rd. Turn left to go north on
Carondolet.

Take Carondolet
to Morgan Ford. There is a Goodwill Store on your left at
this intersection. Make a note to check out the great bargains there
later and

Turn right
on to Morgan Ford. Cross the scenic River Des Peres to Germania.
Imagine how this area looked in 1993 when it was flooded in the Great
Flood of '93.

Turn left
on to Germania. Go approximately 1 mile to an intersection
with a Steak and Shake and Walgreens (Gravois. Forget all the
French you know; we pronounce it GRA-VOY). At this intersection, Germania
magically becomes Hampton. Ignore this fact and keep
going. From Hampton
and Gravois it is 1.5 miles to Itaska.

on to Itaska. Itaska is a narrow residential street.
Admire the charming gingerbread houses but

turn right
at the first cross-street, Clifton.

Take Clifton
1 1/2 blocks to St. Mark's.
South bound
(you are traveling away from downtown St. Louis)

Exit the
Highway at exit 202B, Germania Avenue. Turn right to go north
on Germania. Go approximately 1.7 miles to an intersection
with a Steak and Shake and Walgreens (Gravois--see pronunciation note
above). At this intersection, Germania magically becomes Hampton.
Ignore this fact and keep going. From Hampton and Gravois it is 1.5
miles to Itaska.

on to Itaska. Itaska is a narrow residential street.
