Concerts & Recitals

St. Mark’s historically has encouraged all sorts of musical offerings both as concerts and during services.  The variety is exemplified by a past Lenten series focused upon music which variously employed a local Rock Band, a well-known Dixieland Band, and other groups including a portion of Bach’s “St Matthew Passion” on the final Sunday in Lent.  Small Ensembles of the St. Louis Symphony, professional vocalists, and folk music groups have provided well attended Sunday afternoon concerts.

A series of Sunday afternoon organ recital began with the installation of the Juget-Sinclair Organ in 2009.  Well know local and international recitalists and  recording artists have provided stirring performances including Dr. Jannette Fischell of Indiana University, Clive Driskill-Smith of Christ Church, Oxford,  Tim Allen and Christine Westhoff organ-voice recital, Michael Unger, Dr. Barbara Raedeke, Andrew Peters, Dr. Jeorg Abbing of Saarbrucken, Germany, and Dr. Gail Archer. Future artists will include a return concert Fall of 2014 by Dr. Jeorg Abbing and a recital Winter of 2015 by Douglas Major.

The remarkable acoustics makes St. Mark’s a perfect venue for musical offerings whether in concert or services.  St. Mark’s has been used for the recording of organ competition tapes by senior students at prestigious conservatories.  We eagerly encourage group or individual performers to consider visiting St. Mark’s for potential site for recordings or performance.  A grand piano and harpsichord are available for concert or recording.
